 | Under the new Common Core rigors, student assessment can be a tenuous task. Providing students with accurate feedback and substantial strategies for learning is tantamount to growth. Addressing students’ learning and performance as well as clarifying expectations is synonymous with excellence. In this course, teachers will learn to utilize tools of the trade in order to elevate students’ self-esteem, improve their writing, assess their individual and group assignments. Various modalities of learning and assessments will be covered for all disciplines. Proper practices will be addressed in order to raise the bar of student growth. In the end, teachers and students alike will develop successful instructional strategies that move beyond the basic rubric.

 | An important aspect of successful classroom instruction is the teacher’s ability to give effective feedback to his or her students. Feedback can be one of the most powerful influences on student learning. Feedback should be designed to improve future performance. This course focuses on—what appropriate feedback is, why it is important, some of the barriers to effective feedback, and how to give helpful feedback. We will also explore the various methods such as research based tips, feedback sentence frames, types of feedback including oral and written, and the use of adjusting feedback practices for the different types of learners. Conferencing with your students is a way to empower them to improve their skills by setting goals and then achieving them. Conferencing is also a great way to really get to individually know each one of your students. Educators will work on how plan conferencing times with your students in the classroom. Teachers will explore strategies for effective discussion skills, how to work towards educational goals set by each student, and how to plan your students’ success. Conferencing guidelines, techniques and questions will be shared. This course is a must for all educators grades K-12.

Since we know education moves in cycles, we see Common Core moving out, and Next Generation moving in. As always our roles as teachers need to ebb and flow as well. This course will describe just what we need to achieve a greater understanding of the Next Generation Standards. We will discuss how to move forward in our curriculum with our students in our classrooms today. This course will provide you with the knowledge to be more of a facilitator in your classroom as you coach your students and as they become more active in their own learning. Educators will explore how to promote and encourage self-directed learning in your classroom, while also creating a learning environment that encourages collaboration. Teachers will discuss how to help your students manage their own learning, and inspire their thinking skills. These skills will help them thrive in their daily lives both inside and outside of the classroom.

How do we as educators deal with students that cheat? It’s a difficult problem to solve. In today’s world of cell phones, Chat GBT and classroom laptops, unfortunately access to cheating is right at our students fingertips. Students have also gotten pretty good at it! As teachers, we have to realize that although we don’t want cheating to happen, it is still going to happen and will still go on around us. In this course educators will explore methods on how to recognize and deal with students that cheat, and what punishments should be given for academic dishonestly. Course Description:The goal of giving great feedback is a skill that all need to practice. Whether you’re a teacher giving feedback to your students, an administrator providing feedback on an observation, or a colleague sharing feedback on a fellow teacher’s lesson, feedback is an integral skill. This course will provide strategies for sharing positive and negative feedback with proper etiquette and style. Since feedback accomplishes different goals depending on the situation, educators will work on strategies for effective use of feedback at the optimal moments and times. Teachers will find that after this course they will achieve great results in and out of the classroom to help provide the feedback results they seek. This course is a must for educators K-12. |
