Joanie Deignan
Hello everyone, my name is Joanie Deignan. I am a Physical
Education and Health Education Teacher. I am a previous Division 1
athlete, I played lacrosse and soccer my whole life. Playing sports led
me to want to coach. I have coached at the junior varsity and varsity
level for ten years. Teaching physical education at the elementary level
is my passion. I knew I wanted to be a teacher in the second grade. I
enjoy spending time with family, friends, and going to the beach. I am
excited to be an instructor for LIIPS and look forward to growing within

Students learn better when they view the learning environment as positive and supportive. A positive environment is one in which students feel like they belong, can trust others, and feel encouraged to tackle challenges, take risks, and ask questions. This course discusses different ways to be positive and your personal experiences demonstrating positivity to students or colleagues. This course is geared towards K-12 educators and special area teachers as well. | |

To be able to teach your class how to work together like a team prior to other units can help them reach full potential as a group and make the most out of your physical education class. Cooperative play helps kids hone their social skills as they figure out how to negotiate group dynamics. It helps them learn how to collaborate and compromise with others, recognize and respond to others’ feelings, share, show affection, resolve conflicts, and follow and cooperate with gymnasium and game rules. |
