Course Description

Are you looking for ways to improve reading comprehension, writing skills, and a deeper understanding of content area material? Science of Reading (SOR) has identified vocabulary acquisition as a key component for students’ success in reading.  This course will guide you through research based data and strategies to help you get to the “root” of effective vocabulary instruction for all students.  Topics included:  3 Tiers of Vocabulary, Academic Vocabulary, Memory (how the brain works), Importance of Background Knowledge (critical for ENL and below grade level readers), Reinforcement through games, centers & technology.  (Grades k-12 General Education, Special Education, ELL)
